Everyone has their way to make this. So I am going to tell you how we make this in Cape Breton. I just googled this and it would seem that boiled dinner comes from Ireland.
Ingredients
HamCabbage
Carrots
Turnips
Potatoes
Stuff you will need
Very Large stock potRoasting pan
Cutting board
Big knife
People that don't mind a salty meal
Directions
We got a smoked picnic ham. That's how it's labeled here in Cape Breton. It weighs about 4 to 5 pounds. Cost less than $20.00. Normally we get it on sale for about half that price.Cover the ham in the pot with water. Boil the ham for about 2 hours. Add more water if you have to.
Remove the ham but don't throw out the water.
Put your ham into a roasting pan and bake it for about an hour at 350 F.
Cut up your vegetables into large chunks. Add that to the water that you retained from the ham and boil them till the hardest of the vegetables is soft. Normally the turnip will take the longest to cook.
Drain the vegetables.
Remove the ham and cut into chunks.
Plate it up with a few chunks of each veggie and a couple chunks of ham.
Comments and suggestions are ALWAYS welcome.
