Mountain Dew Citrus Glass Candy
Yep — this is a fun one. “Glass candy” made with Mountain Dew gives you a bright citrusy hard candy with that classic neon vibe.
🍬 Mountain Dew Citrus Glass Candy
Ingredients
1 cup Mountain Dew (regular, not diet)
2 cups granulated sugar
½ cup light corn syrup
¼ tsp cream of tartar
Green food coloring (optional, for that classic look)
Powdered sugar (for dusting)
Instructions
Prep your pan
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone mat.
Lightly dust with powdered sugar.
Start the syrup
In a saucepan, combine Mountain Dew, sugar, corn syrup, and cream of tartar.
Heat over medium, stirring until sugar dissolves.
Boil to hard crack stage
Stop stirring and let it boil.
Cook until it reaches 300°F (150°C) — this is the hard crack stage.
Add color (optional)
Remove from heat.
Stir in a few drops of green food coloring if you want that signature look.
Pour and set
Carefully pour onto your prepared sheet.
Let it spread thin.
Cool completely
Once hardened (about 20–30 minutes), break into shards.
Dust lightly
Toss pieces in powdered sugar to prevent sticking.
🔥 Tips (learned the hard way)
Don’t stir once it starts boiling — you’ll get crystals instead of glass.
If your weather is humid (hello Atlantic Canada 😄), the candy can get sticky — store airtight with silica gel or extra powdered sugar.
The flavor gets more “citrus candy” than soda once cooked — still good, just less fizzy tasting.
⚠️ Safety
Molten sugar is extremely hot (like lava). Avoid touching or tasting until fully cooled.
