Who doesn't like hot dogs... I know I love them. This is a sure fire way to create something new for your friends while you are waiting for your main item to come out of your smoker. Or make them ahead and bring them over to your friends house.
Ingredients
Hot dogs
BBQ Rub
Mustard or Mayo
BBQ Sauce
Stuff you will need
Cutting board
Sharp knife
Toothpicks
Smoker, or BBQ with smoke puck
Hickory puck, or Mesquite puck
Throw away tin pan, big enough so the hot dogs are in 1 layer
PAM cooking spray
Directions
Cut your hot dogs so they have a cross hatch pattern
Most people will use mustard as a binder. Did you know, you can also use mayonnaise? Not Miracle Whip.
Then, sprinkle the hot dogs with the BBQ Rub.
Set the smoker to 250 F. If using the BBQ, put the heat on one side to low and the hot dogs on the other side (cool side). Put the smoker puck on top of the heat side. Smoke for 30 minutes.
Now cut the hot dogs into bite sized pieces. 1/3 of a normal sized hit dog.
Put them into the tin pan sprayed with PAM.
Slather your favorite BBQ sauce over the hot dogs (now pinecones).
Back in the smoker for 30 minutes, or the BBQ.
It isn't healthy... but oh so tasty!
Get out the toothpicks and serve while hot.
I got my smoke puck from Canadian Tire so that I can use the Bradley Smoker pucks on your BBQ. Sort of a cheater way to turn your BBQ into a smoker. They do come in different varieties, shapes and sizes.
PRO TIP: got your self a charcoal BBQ... oh yea... this will be so good!! Just make sure to push all the charcoal to one side. You don't want to burn your hot dogs.
Have a few of these with some beers. Geesh, my mouth is watering.
