Homemade Butter

They say anything homemade is far superior to anything that is mass produced.

This recipe makes a 1/2 pound of butter.

I checked the price.  For a litter of whipping cream, costs $8.27 at my local Walmart.

Since I purchase my butter by the 2 pound blocks, you would need 4 liters of heavy whipping cream.  $8.37 × 4 = $33.48.

A block of butter currently sells for $4.92.  So... if you are in it for the experience, go for it.

I don't know $28.57 is worth the taste.

Ingredients

1 ltr heavy whipping cream

Stuff you will need

Stand mixer with wire whisk attachment
Ice water bath
Mesh bag, cheese cloth, or hand towel
Spatula

Directions

Make sure you chill the mixing bowl.  Same with the whipping cream.

Pour the entire contents of the whipping cream into the mixing bowl.

Of course it will make whipping cream, but keep going.  You will see the butter separate from the buttermilk.

Keep going, but turn down the mixer speed, otherwise the buttermilk is going to fly out of the bowl.

You may need to bang the wire whisk against the side of the mixing bowl.  But get all your butter and using the spatula, press as much of the buttermilk out of the butter.

Transfer your butter to the mesh bag.  Submerge into the ice bath.  Squeeze the butter as you want to continue getting as much of the buttermilk out of the butter.

Remove the butter from the mesh bag and form your butter into a block of butter.

With the leftover buttermilk, make some biscuits.
