I make my own gravy from scratch. But every so often, you need a helping hand.
Ingredients
1 cup all purpose flour
1 Tbsp cornstarch
1 Tbsp onion powder
1 Tbsp garlic powder
1 Tbsp dried parsley
1 tsp black pepper 🌶
2 tsp celtic sea salt 🧂 (optional for myself)
Stuff you will need
Mixing bowl
Whisk
Storage container
Directions
Put all the ingredients in the mixing bowl and whisk together
Whisk whisk whisk
Transfer to the storage container
To Use
You will make a roux by melting butter, or lard, or grease 1:1 with this mix.
Medium heat. Do NOT walk away from this once you start.
You will smell the flour cooking off. The longer you cook this, the darker the roux will be, but it will also be thinner.
So... light roux, thick gravy.
Add water, or milk, in small quantities as you continue to whisk until you are happy with the desired results. You can also add chicken, beef, or vegetable stock in place of the water/milk.
My parents used to do shopping trips to the USA and Dad got me a bottle. I knew, after Dad passed, mum wouldn't use this, so I asked her for the second bottle.
I am down to about 1/2 a bottle on that second bottle. A little goes a long way. 1 tsp for gravy and it will darken nicely.
