Tourtière

🎄Canadian Tourtière " Meat Pie "🥧

Intro:

Get ready to bake up some serious comfort with this classic Quebec tourtière! It’s the kind of dish that brings everyone together, filled with a savory blend of ground meats and warm spices, all wrapped up in a buttery, flaky crust. Perfect for a holiday dinner or just a chilly evening! ✨

Ingredients:

- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 lb ground BEEF
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 tsp summer savory
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 russet potato, grated
- 4 9-inch pie crusts (2 packs)
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp water

Directions:

1. In a large pot or Dutch oven, sauté the chopped onion and minced garlic in a little oil until softened. Add the ground beef and ground BEEF, and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon. Drain any excess fat.

2. Stir in the summer savory, ground cloves, ground nutmeg, and bay leaf. Cook for about 1 minute until fragrant.

3. Pour in the beef broth and add the grated potato. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce the heat and let it cook for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

4. Remove the bay leaf and let the filling cool completely. This is a crucial step for a great pie!

5. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).

6. Place one pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish. Fill with the cooled meat mixture, mounding it slightly in the center.

7. Top with a second pie crust. Crimp the edges to seal and cut a few slits in the top crust to vent steam.

8. Whisk the egg and water together to make an egg wash. Brush the top of the pie with the egg wash for a beautiful golden finish.

9. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is a deep golden brown.

Pro Tip:
Serve your tourtière warm with a side of tangy cranberry sauce or zesty mustard pickles for the perfect flavor combination. Enjoy! ❤️
