Homemade Cornmeal

Not that I use a lot of cornmeal, but its nice to know you do NOT need a special machine to make this.

Sort of price prohibitive. Unless I am in the business of baking stuff and I need cornmeal by the ton.

Ingredients

Popcorn 🍿 kernels

Stuff you will need

Food Processor or Blender or Meat Mallet or Rolling Pin or Mortal and Pestle
Fine mesh strainer
Strong Plastic Bag or Cheese Cloth
Storage container

Directions

Food processor, put about 1 cup of Popcorn Kernels at a time, and pulse so as not to over work the machine.

Once you are at your desired consistency,  coarse or fine, dump the blender into the fine mesh strainer to remove any kernels that need to be re-blenbed.

Blender, put about 1 cup of Popcorn Kernels at a time, and pulse so as not to over work the machine.

Once you are at your desired consistency,  coarse or fine, dump the blender into the fine mesh strainer to remove any kernels that need to be re-blenbed.

Meat Mallet, put about 1 cup of popcorn kernels in a strong plastic bag, or cheese cloth, and bang away.  Make sure what ever surface you are banging on will not be damaged.

Transfer to fine mesh strainer.  Put the larger bits back into the strong plastic bag, or cheese cloth.  Rinse and repeat.

Rolling Pin, put about 1 cup of popcorn kernels in a strong plastic bag, or cheese cloth, and bang away.  Make sure what ever surface you are banging on will not be damaged.

Transfer to fine mesh strainer.  Put the larger bits back into the strong plastic bag, or cheese cloth.  Rinse and repeat.

Mortar and Pestle, don't overload the mortar.  Use the pestle with a tap/roll/grind to get your desired consistency.

This is going to be the most labour intensive method.  But you may have frustrations you need to work on.

Transfer to fine mesh strainer.  Put the larger bits back into the strong plastic bag, or cheese cloth.  Rinse and repeat.

Doesn't matter which method,  transfer your cornmeal to your labeled storage container.
